Early Retirement in Mexico

Retiring early and moving to Mexico where expenses are lower and where weather is better has become VERY popular. Baby boomers are tired of waiting to do what they always wanted to do. They are tired of dreaming about the future. They are realizing that the future is now.

And, they are having trouble paying the mortgage and the property taxes. Yearly property taxes in Mexico cost about as much as two Saturday nights out in the U.S.! If purchasing a home sounds like too much of a jump, then know that rentals are incredibly inexpensive.

Not only are boomers retiring to Mexico, but folks in their 30’s and 40’s are realizing that they can conduct business as usual from their laptops.

In San Miguel de Allende where I live, there are any families with young children. Dad and Mom work at home for their companies back in the U.S.  The kids go to school and learn Spanish within about 8 weeks! There is a large expat community that is supportive. Communication with parents and grandparents left behind is through Skype or internet phone service like Vonage.

An award-winning documentary film that has been helpful to many prospective expats is LOST and FOUND in MEXICO. It shows through a personal memoir and through many interviews of expats the psychological results of moving to Mexico. A copy can be found at www.lostandfoundinmexico.com

Americans can sell their house, buy one in Mexico without a mortgage, and live with less stress. Towns to consider in Mexico are Guadalajara, Merida, Sayulita, Puerto Vallarta, and San Miguel de Allende.

PS  The dvd, Lost and Found in Mexico, makes a wonderful Christmas present for anyone who is dreaming about getting away from it all!
